The Destiny of Israel Part Five

The regathering of all the tribes of Israel and the reuninting of Israel with Judah is a major theme of the prophets. Many scriptures speak of this coming event and there are whole chapters that give us considerable details whereby we can ascertain the sort of conditions that will accompany this fulfillment of prophecy. And there is sufficient information contained in these passages of God’s Word that refute the majority of scenarios offered by the many contemporary eschatological teachers and prophets of our time. Jesus warned us in Matthew 24 that there would be many false prophets so let us go to the Word and see what the real prophets of God had to say on this subject and let the scriptures speak for themselves.

Again and again the Lord reiterates the gathering of both Judah and Israel to the land that was promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. There has never been a reuniting of the two kingdoms of the children of Israel since they were divided during the time of Jereboam and Reheboam after the death of King Solomon.

Ezekiel 37:15 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 16 “As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: ‘For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.’ Then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.’ 17 Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand.

18 “And when the children of your people speak to you, saying, ‘Will you not show us what you mean by these?’— 19 say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will join them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.”’ 20 And the sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes.

21 “Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; 22 and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. 23 They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

Jeremiah 50:4-5

“In those days and in that time,” says the Lord,

“The children of Israel shall come,

They and the children of Judah together;

With continual weeping they shall come,

And seek the Lord their God.

They shall ask the way to Zion,

With their faces toward it, saying,

‘Come and let us join ourselves to the Lord

In a perpetual covenant

That will not be forgotten.’

Jeremiah 3:18 “In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given as an inheritance to your fathers.

Hosea 1:10-11

“Yet the number of the children of Israel

Shall be as the sand of the sea,

Which cannot be measured or numbered.

And it shall come to pass

In the place where it was said to them,

‘You are not My people,’[a]

There it shall be said to them,

You are sons of the living God.’


Then the children of Judah and the children of Israel

Shall be gathered together,

And appoint for themselves one head;

And they shall come up out of the land,

For great will be the day of Jezreel!

Isaiah 11:11-14


It shall come to pass in that day

That the Lord shall set His hand again the second time

To recover the remnant of His people who are left,

From Assyria and Egypt,

From Pathros and Cush,

From Elam and Shinar,

From Hamath and the islands of the sea.


He will set up a banner for the nations,

And will assemble the outcasts of Israel,

And gather together the dispersed of Judah

From the four corners of the earth.


Also the envy of Ephraim shall depart,

And the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off;

Ephraim shall not envy Judah,

And Judah shall not harass Ephraim.


But they shall fly down upon the shoulder of the Philistines toward the west;

Together they shall plunder the people of the East;

They shall lay their hand on Edom and Moab;

And the people of Ammon shall obey them.

Jeremiah 30

30 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, “Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. For behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the Lord. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’”

Now these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.

“For thus says the Lord:

‘We have heard a voice of trembling,

Of fear, and not of peace.

Ask now, and see,

Whether a man is ever in labor with child?

So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins

Like a woman in labor,

And all faces turned pale?

Alas! For that day is great,

So that none is like it;

And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble,

But he shall be saved out of it.

‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’

Says the Lord of hosts,

That I will break his yoke from your neck,

And will burst your bonds;

Foreigners shall no more enslave them.

But they shall serve the Lord their God,

And David their king,

Whom I will raise up for them.


‘Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the Lord,

‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel;

For behold, I will save you from afar,

And your seed from the land of their captivity.

Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet,

And no one shall make him afraid.


For I am with you,’ says the Lord, ‘to save you;

Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you,

Yet I will not make a complete end of you.

But I will correct you in justice,

And will not let you go altogether unpunished.’

12 “For thus says the Lord:

‘Your affliction is incurable,

Your wound is severe.


There is no one to plead your cause,

That you may be bound up;

You have no healing medicines.


All your lovers have forgotten you;

They do not seek you;

For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy,

With the chastisement of a cruel one,

For the multitude of your iniquities,

Because your sins have increased.


Why do you cry about your affliction?

Your sorrow is incurable.

Because of the multitude of your iniquities,

Because your sins have increased,

I have done these things to you.


‘Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured;

And all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity;

Those who plunder you shall become plunder,

And all who prey upon you I will make a prey.


For I will restore health to you

And heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord,

‘Because they called you an outcast saying:

“This is Zion;

No one seeks her.”’


“Thus says the Lord:

‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents,

And have mercy on his dwelling places;

The city shall be built upon its own mound,

And the palace shall remain according to its own plan.


Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving

And the voice of those who make merry;

I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish;

I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.


Their children also shall be as before,

And their congregation shall be established before Me;

And I will punish all who oppress them.


Their nobles shall be from among them,

And their governor shall come from their midst;

Then I will cause him to draw near,

And he shall approach Me;

For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the Lord.


‘You shall be My people,

And I will be your God.’”


Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord

Goes forth with fury,

A continuing whirlwind;

It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.


The fierce anger of the Lord will not return until He has done it,

And until He has performed the intents of His heart.

In the latter days you will consider it.

Ezekiel 36 “And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say, ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God: “Because the enemy has said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession,’”’ therefore prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Because they made you desolate and swallowed you up on every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you are taken up by the lips of talkers and slandered by the people”— therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, the valleys, the desolate wastes, and the cities that have been forsaken, which became plunder and mockery to the rest of the nations all around— therefore thus says the Lord God: “Surely I have spoken in My burning jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with wholehearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder its open country.”’

“Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, and the valleys, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and My fury, because you have borne the shame of the nations.” Therefore thus says the Lord God: “I have raised My hand in an oath that surely the nations that are around you shall bear their own shame. But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to My people Israel, for they are about to come. For indeed I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown. 10 I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt. 11 I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bear young; I will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginnings. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. 12 Yes, I will cause men to walk on you, My people Israel; they shall take possession of you, and you shall be their inheritance; no more shall you bereave them of children.

13 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Because they say to you, ‘You devour men and bereave your nation of children,14 therefore you shall devour men no more, nor bereave your nation anymore,” says the Lord God. 15 “Nor will I let you hear the taunts of the nations anymore, nor bear the reproach of the peoples anymore, nor shall you cause your nation to stumble anymore,” says the Lord God.’”

16 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 17 “Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds; to Me their way was like the uncleanness of a woman in her customary impurity. 18 Therefore I poured out My fury on them for the blood they had shed on the land, and for their idols with which they had defiled it. 19 So I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the countries; I judged them according to their ways and their deeds. 20 When they came to the nations, wherever they went, they profaned My holy name—when they said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, and yet they have gone out of His land.’ 21 But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations wherever they went.

22 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name’s sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went. 23 And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord,” says the Lord God, “when I am hallowed in you before their eyes. 24 For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. 28 Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God. 29 I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. I will call for the grain and multiply it, and bring no famine upon you. 30 And I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of famine among the nations. 31 Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations. 32 Not for your sake do I do this,” says the Lord God, “let it be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel!”

33 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by. 35 So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ 36 Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the ruined places and planted what was desolate. I, the Lord, have spoken it, and I will do it.

37 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “I will also let the house of Israel inquire of Me to do this for them: I will increase their men like a flock. 38 Like a flock offered as holy sacrifices, like the flock at Jerusalem on its feast days, so shall the ruined cities be filled with flocks of men. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”’”

Ezekiel 38-39

38 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh,[a] Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. Persia, Ethiopia,[b] and Libya[c] are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.

“Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them. After many days you will be visited. In the latter years you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they were brought out of the nations, and now all of them dwell safely. You will ascend, coming like a storm, covering the land like a cloud, you and all your troops and many peoples with you.”

10 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will make an evil plan: 11 You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’— 12 to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land. 13 Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’”’

14 “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On that day when My people Israel dwell safely, will you not know it? 15 Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army. 16 You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.” 17 Thus says the Lord God: “Are you he of whom I have spoken in former days by My servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied for years in those days that I would bring you against them?

18 “And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face. 19 For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, 20 so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’ 21 I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord God. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother. 22 And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”’

39 “And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh,[d] Meshech, and Tubal; and I will turn you around and lead you on, bringing you up from the far north, and bring you against the mountains of Israel. Then I will knock the bow out of your left hand, and cause the arrows to fall out of your right hand. You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. You shall fall on the open field; for I have spoken,” says the Lord God. “And I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in security in the coastlands. Then they shall know that I am the Lord. So I will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Israel, and I will not let them profane My holy name anymore. Then the nations shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel. Surely it is coming, and it shall be done,” says the Lord God. “This is the day of which I have spoken.

“Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years. 10 They will not take wood from the field nor cut down any from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will plunder those who plundered them, and pillage those who pillaged them,” says the Lord God.

11 “It will come to pass in that day that I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea; and it will obstruct travelers, because there they will bury Gog and all his multitude. Therefore they will call it the Valley of Hamon Gog.[e] 12 For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land. 13 Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified,” says the Lord God. 14 “They will set apart men regularly employed, with the help of a search party,[f] to pass through the land and bury those bodies remaining on the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search. 15 The search party will pass through the land; and when anyone sees a man’s bone, he shall set up a marker by it, till the buriers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog. 16 The name of the city will also be Hamonah. Thus they shall cleanse the land.”’

17 “And as for you, son of man, thus says the Lord God, ‘Speak to every sort of bird and to every beast of the field:

“Assemble yourselves and come;

Gather together from all sides to My sacrificial meal

Which I am sacrificing for you,

A great sacrificial meal on the mountains of Israel,

That you may eat flesh and drink blood.


You shall eat the flesh of the mighty,

Drink the blood of the princes of the earth,

Of rams and lambs,

Of goats and bulls,

All of them fatlings of Bashan.


You shall eat fat till you are full,

And drink blood till you are drunk,

At My sacrificial meal

Which I am sacrificing for you.


You shall be filled at My table

With horses and riders,

With mighty men

And with all the men of war,” says the Lord God.

21 “I will set My glory among the nations; all the nations shall see My judgment which I have executed, and My hand which I have laid on them. 22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day forward. 23 The Gentiles shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity; because they were unfaithful to Me, therefore I hid My face from them. I gave them into the hand of their enemies, and they all fell by the sword. 24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I have dealt with them, and hidden My face from them.”’

25 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Now I will bring back the captives of Jacob, and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for My holy name— 26 after they have borne their shame, and all their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, when they dwelt safely in their own land and no one made them afraid. 27 When I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and I am hallowed in them in the sight of many nations, 28 then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer. 29 And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,’ says the Lord God.”

Indeed, the Scriptures speak for themselves. And without offering any interpretation, I shall simply draw attention to a few details.

During the time of the coming attempted invasion by Gog and Magog, Israel is living as a peaceful people without walls. This does not describe the Nation of Israel made up of Jews at this present time. They might secure a ceasefire for a time, but their enemies are simply using the time to rearm and so in reality, the war goes on.

Also noted above, when the return to the land they appoint for themselves a governor. This sounds like democracy is still the order of the day.

The Destiny of Israel Chapter Four

Understanding Israel’s Destiny helps us to properly undertand the end-times. Understanding God’s plan to regather all the tribes of Israel and not just the Jews helps us understand Jacob’s Trouble and the attempted invasion of Gog and Magog and much more.

Simple Biblical Clues for Finding the Lost 10 Tribes of Israel

1.We should look for the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel being represented by large population bodies and/or large nations. We should not have a minimalist view of the Scriptures and thus search through the breadcrumbs of humanity in isolated and remote regions. Hosea 1:9-10 indicates 10-Israel will become as numerous “as the Sand of the Sea” AFTER their exile. Genesis 48:19 indicates Ephraim would become “the fullness of the nations”, or “a multitude of nations”, or a “company of nations”, depending on the translation you are reading.

2.We should look through history for migrating peoples who have name derivatives of Abraham and Isaac (e.g., Brahman, Saka, etc). Genesis 21:12 reads: But Elohim said to Abraham, “Let it not be evil in your eyes because of the boy and because of your female servant. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice, for in Isaac your seed is called.” Genesis 48:15-16 further clarifies this and applies the name of Isaac primary to Joseph’s sons Ephraim and Manasseh. It reads: And he blessed Joseph, and said, “The Elohim before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the Elohim who has fed me all my life long to this day, (16) the Messenger who has redeemed me from all evil – bless the youths! And let my name be called upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac And let them increase to a multitude in the midst of the earth.”

3.In spite of the traditional Christian belief and response to the subject, we should not consider 10-Israel forsaken or having died out from the earth or assimilated into oblivion. Jeremiah 51:5 reads: “For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his Elohim  of hosts; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel”.

4.We should look for the nation or people who conquered the Neo-Assyrian Empire as being 10-Israel or at least hosting 10-Israel. Isaiah 14:2b reads, “And they shall make captives of their captors, and rule over their oppressors”. Between 627-605 BCE, Scythians, Cimmerians, and Medes ravaged the Assyrians as far as the Egyptian border. Remember, Assyria deported some Israelites to the region of the Medes. Eventually, much of Assyria’s former lands would be ruled by the Parthian Empire (of Scythian/Saka stock) for nearly 500 years. Its first king was crowned in the city of “Asaak” (note similarity to Isaac in 247 BC.


5.We should look for peoples who eventually migrate out of the Medio-Persian homeland, but we should also look for peoples who were “afar off” during the time of Daniel’s prophetic period who may have never been deported to Media or Persia. Daniel 9:7 reads, “O , to You is the righteousness, and to us the shame of face, as it is this day – to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the lands to which You have driven them, because of their trespass which they have trespassed against You.”

6.We should not necessarily look for a people of any particular color or so-called “race”, but instead should look for diverse peoples with many cultural customs and traditions. Hosea 5:7 reads, “For they have begotten pagan children. Hosea 7:8 reads, “Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples.”

7.We should not necessarily look for Jewishness or Jewish “customs” within prospective cultures because 10-Israel no longer embraced Torah customs during the period just before their exile, but instead they embraced lives of idolatry and mixed pagan worship, which was the central impetus for  removing them from the Land of Israel in the first place (Daniel 9:7). This is not to say that some 10-Israelites would not later return to some vestige of Judaism (e.g., Khazaria converting to Judaism), but finding the presence of Jewish customs in any particular group should not be the primary litmus test of identification.


8.We should identify 10-Israel by identifying the nations which host Judah (the Jews) in the Last Days. Jeremiah 3:17-18 and Jeremiah 50:4,20,33-34 all indicate they (10-Israel and Judah) will be walking TOGETHER and will return to Zion TOGETHER.

9.We should look for peoples who have historically possessed “the Gate” of their enemies, the strategic military vantage points (e.g., major sea ports, narrow but significant sea channels, major trade routes). Genesis 24:60 reads, “And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, “Let our sister become the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your seed possess the gates of those who hate them.”

When we look at the nations of the world and their respective histories, it is not hard to see that Israel has certainly fulfilled part of her destiny and is fast approaching the time when she will fulfill her final destination, the land Promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to be joined together with Judah into a kingdom that shall never be divided again.

Part 7.

Were the Ten Lost Tribes Ever Really Lost?

The precise term “Lost Tribes,” which we and others use to refer to the captivity and eventual dispersion of the ten tribes of the northern House of Israel by the Assyrians in the 8th century BCE, never occurs in the Scriptures. This raises a valid question as to whether our research and attempts to identify these Israelites might be illegitimate from a Biblical point of view. Indeed, there are those who maintain that the Northern Ten Tribes were never lost at all, and are now part of the Israelites whom we identify today as the Jewish people.

Actually, from a prophetic point of view, there is a sense in which those northern tribes of Israel, known in the prophets as the House of Israel, or by the names Ephraim or Joseph, were never lost—certainly not to God. The LORD (YHVH) declares, about the future great ingathering of all the tribes of Israel that is to rival the Exodus from Egypt, “For My eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from My face…” (Jer 16:14-18; Cf. Jer 3:11-18). The prophet Amos makes the point even more sharply, again recording the very words of the LORD (YHVH):

“Behold the eyes of the LORD (YHVH) God are upon the sinful kingdom [northern House of Israel], and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, says the LORD (YHVH). For lo, I will command, and I will sift the House of Israel among all nations, as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.” (Amos 9:8-9).

This article will consider five areas of evidence to justify our contention that those ten northern tribes of ancient Israel were essentially lost to history until our time, a time when knowledge shall abound. They have remained largely separated from the tribe of Judah (the Jewish people today), and that their identification and restoration is an essential part of the Divine plan for the redemption of the world. We will survey the following areas in this order: the Biblical, the historical-literary, the archaeological, the rabbinic, and the prophetic.

The Biblical Record

We begin with the historical books of the Bible itself. 1 Kings 11 records the division of the Twelve Tribes of ancient Israel into two distinct kingdoms or “houses,” following the death of Solomon in the 10th century BCE. Jeroboam, who was from the tribe of Ephraim, and thus not of the royal line of David, is told by Ahijah the prophet that the LORD (YHVH) would divide the kingdom, giving him “ten pieces,” or tribes, leaving only one, the tribe of Judah (with portions of Levi) in the south, centered in Jerusalem. This southern kingdom of Judah would continue the monarchy of David, fulfilling the promise God had made that David’s line would never perish and would eventually produce the Messiah (I Kings 11:26-35; Psalm 89). In the rest of the book of 1 Kings, and throughout 2 Kings, we read the detailed story of the entirely separate history of what is called the “Divided Kingdom,” that of the House of Israel in the north, and the House of Judah in the south, with their distinctive ruling dynasties. All of the prophets, from Hosea through Ezekiel, consistently maintain this distinction and tailor their messages to either the kingdom of Israel or that of Judah (or sometimes both). The Exiles of these respective kingdoms are approximately 135 years apart, the former by the Assyrians (8th century BCE) and the latter by the Babylonians (6th century BCE). The northern kingdom eventually turned to the worst sort of idolatry, and her kings, such as the infamous Ahab, along with his wicked wife, Jezebel, abandoned completely the service of the LORD (YHVH) and His Torah-based Covenant with the people of Israel (1 Kings 16:30-33). 2 Kings 17 offers a chilling summary of 200 years of apostasy and declares that the Exile of northern Israel from their land by the Assyrians in the late 8th century BCE was God’s punishment for their sins. The writer of Kings puts it most succinctly:

So the LORD (YHVH) was very angry with Israel and removed them from his presence. Only the tribe of Judah was left… (2 Kings 17:18).

The devastation of the northern kingdom of Israel came in a series of military campaigns by the Assyrians, first under Tiglath-Pileser (c. 730 BCE), and subsequently by Shalmaneser V and Sargon II (722 BCE). The Assyrian policy was to actually deport the populations of those areas they conquered, resettling the land with non-native peoples (2 Kings 15:29; 17:6, 24). These new residents of northern Israel came to be known as the Samaritans. The writer of Kings records:

In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, and in Habor, by the river Gozan, and in the towns of the Medes (2 Kings 17:6 & 18:11).

Most scholars locate these areas to the region north and west of Nineveh, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. It is noteworthy that both the writer of Kings, as well as the Chronicler, record “they are still there today” (2 Kings 17:23; 1 Chron 5:26). Since the Chronicles were written as late as the 5th century BCE, after the return of Judah from Babylonian Exile, it is clear that the writer (traditionally Ezra) knew that these northern ten tribes remained in Exile in his day, that is, after the time that Judah and Jerusalem were restored. This is the last trace we get of the Northern Ten Tribes in the historical portions of the Hebrew Scriptures.

The books of Ezra and Nehemiah, as well as the Chronicles, record the return of the tribe of Judah (with portions of Benjamin and Levi) from Babylonian Exile between 539-520 BCE. Some have mistakenly understood references in these texts which refer to some of the additional tribes, other than Judah, or to all twelve tribes, as implying that the northern tribes, deported by the Assyrians, also returned to the Land en masse during this period in response to the decree of Cyrus. This is entirely without basis. We do know that even during the reigns of Hezekiah and Josiah, kings of Judah, over a hundred years earlier, portions of the northern tribes (Ephraim, Manasseh, Asher, Zebulon, Issachar) did come to Jerusalem for Passover, even though the bulk of the population had been deported to Assyria (2 Chron 30:1-18; 34:6-9). This indicates that the Assyrians did not carry away the total population, some small numbers of these northern Israelites were left in the land, particularly those who were attached to Judah and Jerusalem. This was especially the case with the small tribe of Benjamin, and many Levites. In the 6th century BCE, under Ezra and Nehemiah, the same was the case. There were some northern Israelites who returned with Judah, but the lists of names and families make it clear that the overwhelming majority of the 42,000 returnees were from Judah, Benjamin, and Levi. Detailed lists are given with tribal affiliation (Ezra 2; Nehemiah 7, and esp. chapter 11). Of course, these courageous pioneers were full of faith that the great promises of their Prophets for a full and final Restoration of all Israel was at hand. Accordingly, when the Temple was rebuilt, sacrifices were offered, as one would expect, for all twelve tribes of Israel (Ezra 6:13-18). Still, the texts of Scripture are unequivocal. The vast majority of northern Israelites were deported by the Assyrians, and “only Judah was left” (2 Kings 17:18), and the writer of Chronicles himself records that they remained in exile in the north even in his own day (1 Chron 5:26).

We should not assume that those who returned to Judea and Jerusalem were unaware of their Israelite brothers and sisters from the northern tribes. There are clear indications in the later prophetic portions of Scripture that the Judeans knew precisely where the other tribes were located. For example, the place names in Isaiah 66:19 (Lydia, Tubal, Greece) clearly show that these tribes had already migrated northwest into Asia Minor and Europe. This evidence accords precisely with what we learn from the Assyrian inscriptions, as we will see.

Historical and Literary References

Jewish literature that survives from the Persian, Greek, and Roman periods unanimously testifies that the northern Ten Tribes of Israel remained in Exile far to the north, scattered among the Gentiles. There are many references but a small sample will suffice for this article. First, there are those texts which scholars know as the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, most of which were written from 300 BCE into the 1st century of our era. The Testament of Moses says: Then some from the tribes will go up and come to their appointed place and once again surround the place with walls [referring to the 539BCE return from Babylon]. And the two tribes will continue in the faith appointed for them…. And the ten tribes will be fruitful and increase among the Gentiles during the time of their captivity (4:7-9; cf. 2:5).

Here one sees that a clear distinction is made between the two (Judah and probably Levi) and the other ten. 2 Esdras is even more explicit, stating that those exiled by the Assyrians were taken first across the Euphrates, but subsequently migrated far beyond:

But they formed this plan for themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the nations and go to a more distant region….a journey of a year and a half; and that country is called Arzareth [meaning, Another Land] (13:39-45).

Texts such as Ben Sirach (36:11-15), the Psalms of Solomon (17:28-31), and the Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs imply a similar dispersion, long after the Babylonian return.

Josephus, the first century historian, records much the same:

Wherefore there are but two tribes [those known as Jews] in Asia and Europe subject to the Romans, while the ten tribes are beyond the Euphrates till now, and are an immense multitude, and not to be estimated by numbers (Antiquities 11.133). This testimony of Josephus is of particular value in that he is a direct descendant of a priestly family which returned under Ezra and could trace his genealogy back to that time. In his history of the Jewish nation he made use of all the available sources in his day. Had there been a general understanding that the northern Tribes of Israel had returned to the Land in the 6th century BCE he would have certainly recorded this.

Archaeological Evidence

It is at this point that the archaeological evidence becomes most crucial for following the subsequent history of these migrating Israelite exiles. Over the past century a massive amount of inscription evidence has been literally dug up from the ruins of the cities of Mesopotamia, documenting the history of the Assyrian and Babylonian periods. This includes monuments, reliefs, and literally thousands of clay tablets, many of which have only been published in recent years. Not only do we now have contemporaneous accounts of the destruction and deportation of northern Israel, but we are able for the first time to actually trace the migrations of the Israelite captives into the regions north of the Caucasus and across the Bosporus strait into southern Europe. In the earliest Assyrian monuments the Israelites are referred to as the “House of Omri (Bit Khumri),” after Omri, king of Israel and father of the wicked Ahab, of the 9th century BCE. Actual correspondence from the court of Sennacherib and Sargon has survived, and it is within such materials that one can begin to pick up references to the Israelites, who were referred to as Gamira or Gamera, and finally as Cimmerians, living in the very areas where the Israelite deportees were taken. The subsequent history of the Cimmerians, their migrations into Asia Minor and southern Europe, and their relationship to the Scythians, is beyond the scope of this article, but has been thoroughly documented. Suffice it to say at this point that this aspect of our evidence, in combination with the Biblical, the literary, and the prophetic, is part of a whole, and forms an impressive demonstration of historical certainty.

The Rabbinic Position

The rabbis have much to say about the “lost” Ten Tribes, and discussions about their whereabouts and their eventual return to the Land of Israel abound in Jewish sources. It is interesting to note that the main discussion in the Mishnah begins with the assertion that “the Ten Tribes will not return” (b. Sanhedrin 110b). In other words, the idea that the Ten Tribes had assimilated with Judah, the Jewish people, or had otherwise returned to the Land, is not even entertained. The whole discussion, which all the rabbis accept, assumes that these tribes are “lost” or in Exile, the pertinent question was whether they would ever return, given their extreme state of apostasy. Rabbi Akiba maintained they would not return, while Rabbi Eleizer held that they would. Both interpretations are based on different interpretations of Biblical prophecy, and whether the promises of restoration were conditional or unconditional. The halachah (authoritative decision) was that the Ten Tribes would return (Tosefta Sanhedrin 13). Indeed, some rabbinic authorities even held that the return of the Ten Tribes was an essential component of the Redemption. The Yalkut Shimoni asserts that even those of the tribes who have lost their identity will come back in the days of the Messiah, when their origins and tribal affiliations will be revealed.

According to the rabbinic sages, the Ten Tribes migrated from Assyria, beyond the River Sambatyon. They report that this mysterious river flows six days a week but stops on the Sabbath (Genesis Rabba 11:5). Most have taken this reference to be legendary, however John Hulley has argued that the tradition actually refers to the Bosporus strait, between the Black and Aegean Seas, where the current actually does slow down or even reverse itself on the average of once a week. He presents linguistic evidence that the very term Sambatyon comes from “yam Bithyon” or “sea of the Bithynians.” If this be the case, we have an amazing correlation with the evidence on the migrations of the Cimmerians, indicating that significant portions of the Israelite deportees moved northwesterly, into Asia Minor and eventually toward Europe.

The Sure Word of Prophecy

For those who believe that the words of the Hebrew Prophets are inspired by God, perhaps the strongest evidence that the Ten Tribes never returned, that they are not to be found among the Jewish people today, but that they will eventually be identified and restored, lies here—in the Bible itself. The problem is that many, if not most, Bible students, both Christian and Jewish, read over passage after passage that clearly refers to the Ten Tribes as if it were referring to the House of Judah, or those we know today as the Jewish people. As we have seen, the Jewish people today obviously contain some mixture from the other tribes, but they are predominately from Judah, Levi, and Benjamin. When the Prophets speak of Joseph, or Ephraim, which they do many times, this is clearly not a reference to the Jewish people and often stands in the same context with some explicit contrasting statement about Judah (the Jews). There are two major points which must be emphasized here.

First, the Prophets clearly declare that the ultimate restoration of the Ten Tribes, and their union with Judah will come in “the last days,”. That time is described in such a way as to make clear that it could not possibly refer to the return of Judah from the Babylonian Exile in the 6th century BCE. For example, Jeremiah 30-31, one of the most explicit prophecies in the Bible dealing with the Tribes, is framed with the statement “in the latter days you will understand this” (Jer 30:24). In case one might wonder or dispute the precise meaning of this phrase, “the latter days,” Jeremiah makes it clear that it is the time when the LORD (YHVH) removes the yoke of foreign domination and raises up a Davidic descendant to be king in Israel (30:9). This corresponds to a time when Jerusalem will  never to be uprooted or demolished again (Jer 31:37-40). Since Jerusalem was utterly demolished by the Romans in 70 CE, subsequent to the return from Babylonian Exile under Ezra and Nehemiah, this particular union and restoration of all Israel— including that of the Land, the City, and the Temple—must be one yet in the future.

Amos makes the same point at the end of his prophecy. The Northern Kingdom is to be destroyed, scattered, but not lost (9:8-9)—yet in a latter time the Davidic “tabernacle” will be restored (9:11), and Israel will be planted back in their own land, “never again to be uprooted” (9:15). Since Judah was uprooted again by the Romans following the return from Babylon, this prophecy, like that of Jeremiah 30-31, must refer to a subsequent time.

Ezekiel 37 speaks of both the valley of dry bones and the union of the two “sticks”. These two Sticks are clearly identified as that of Joseph (and “his companions,” i.e., the Ten Tribes) and Judah. This important prophecy is obviously  yet future to us, and could not have been fulfilled in 2nd Temple times (5th century BC through 1st century AD). The latter verses of the chapter make this clear. Further, as the following two chapters show, the ‘joining of the two sticks’ is just preceding the wars of Gog and Magog. To apply Ezekiel 37 to any time in the past is to rob it of any sensible meaning.

Isaiah 11 also speaks of this time of the union of the Ten Tribes with the House of Judah. At that time the LORD (YHVH) extends His hand a second time [not the Babylonian Return] to recover the exiles of both Israel and Judah (verses 10-12). These Scriptures: Jeremiah 30-31; Amos 9; Ezekiel 37; and Isaiah 11, are representative of an entire mesh of related texts, all of which correlate perfectly with one another. The Prophets offer us an incredibly vivid picture of the Last Days, and central to their vision is this coming union of the “lost” tribes of Joseph and his companions, with those we know today as the Jewish people.

The second major point which stands out most starkly in the Prophets is the absolutely staggering scope of the future Restoration of all the Tribes. It is to rival the Exodus from Egypt, according to Jeremiah: However, the days are coming declares the LORD (YHVH), when men will no longer say, As the LORD (YHVH) lives who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt, but they will say, As the LORD (YHVH) lives who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them. For I will restore them to the land I gave their forefathers (Jer 16:14-15).

Lest anyone doubt the context, the passage is repeated in Jeremiah 23:7-8. The language could not be plainer. Jeremiah 3:11-18 also adds further details regarding this coming Restoration. By no stretch of language or imagination can any of these texts be applied to the hopeful but limited return of the Jews from Babylon in 586 BCE.

It has been my experience that those who maintain that the Jewish people today represent the fulfillment of the Biblical prophecies regarding the restoration of ALL Israel have usually not carefully read the many portions of Scripture dealing with that Restoration. These texts make it very plain that a great awakening lies yet ahead of us, one that will usher in the Messianic Era.

Without apology, the above is an article that has been edited by me to conform to revelation of the Scriptures that testify that Jesus is the Christ, God manifested in the flesh, who rose from the dead having died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. The original article was written by a Jewish Rabbi whose historical research into the prophecies concerning Israel I respect, but his theology I reject.

The Destiny of Israel Chapter Two

As we consider Israel’s destiny in the light of the promises of God, it is well for us to consider that the Birthright Promises that fell upon Ephraim, and the Promises of God regarding the Scepter not departing from Judah, and the promises made to Ishmael, are all unconditional with regards to the recipients. This is because the promises were not made to the recipients, but to the respective patriarchs or matriarch. The promises made concerning Ishmael becoming a multitude were actually made to Hagar and were not dependent on Ishmael’s obedience. Gen 16:10-12 Also the promise of Ishmael begetting 12 princes and of him becoming a great nation. This promise was actually made to Abraham. Gen 17:20

There are other promises of God made to the Children of Israel which were conditional; the Blessings and the Curses of Deut 28 and Lev 26 being the most definitive. However, the Promises regarding the Birthright and the Scepter were something that God would accomplish despite the conduct of the descendants so that God would be able to say, “Not according to your righteousness do I do this for you, but because of My Holy Name.”

As we continue with this study, we will see from the scriptures the unfolding of God’s dealings with Israel.

Part 5. The Great Divide

God’s promise to give the land of the Canaanites to the descendants of Abraham would seem to have been fulfilled, and for a time the Promised Land was definitely under their control. Yet when David had conquered all his enemies and the Lord had given him peace and he was contemplating building a house for the Lord, the prophet Nathan came to him. Amongst other words came this promise concerning Israel; 2 Samuel 7:10 “Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore…” Here we have Israel in the Promised Land, with Judah, and the Lord is saying through the prophet to David that He ‘will appoint a place for My people Israel’.

Even before the kingdom was divided, God made reference in the scriptures to the reality of the Two Houses, Judah and Israel. Note also these verses: Joshua 11:21; 1 Samuel 11:8; 17:52; 18:16; 2 Samuel 2:10; 3:10; 5:5; 11:11; 12:8; 19:11,40,41,42,43; 20:2; 21:2; 24:1,9; 1 Kings 1:35; 2:32; 4:20,25;

God had a purpose and a plan to fulfill all his promises to the sons Jacob and the sons of Joseph whom Jacob had adopted to be called by his name. The Birthright Blessing, that was taken from Reuben because he defiled his father’s bed, was placed upon Ephraim who would would also be called Israel. Gen 48:16.

So after Solomon did great evil in the sight of the Lord, God began the process of separating Israel from Judah.  We find that story in 1 Kings Chapters 11 and 12.

Interestingly, when Solomon’s son Reheboam sought to squash the apparent rebellion led by Jereboam, the prophet declared, “Thus says the Lord: “You shall not go up nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel. Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.”’” Therefore they obeyed the word of the Lord, and turned back, according to the word of the Lord.”

Yes, the dividing of the children of Israel into two kingdoms was of the Lord. And in response to Jeroboam’s idolatry, the Lord promised that they would be scattered beyond the River (The Euphrates) a promise that was fulfilled painfully when Israel’s continued apostasy resulted in them being taken captive and removed from the land many years later by the Assyrians. 2 Kings 17

Part 6. The Two House Reality

The following scripture references are instances where Israel and Judah, or Ephraim and Judah, or Joseph and Judah are used together in the Word of God and clearly indicate TWO separate entities.

There are about 180 scriptures in all that speak on this subject, about 160 are mentioned above. There are also other scriptures which speak of Israel or Jacob, and the historical and scriptural context refers not to the House of Judah, but to the House of Israel whose destiny we are exploring. It has already been noted that some of the above scriptures identify the two separate houses of the Children of Israel even before they were divided from each other.

Although the history of both Israel and Judah are very similar in that they were both banished from the Promised Land because of their apostasy, the fulfillment of the Birthright Promises to Ephraim meant that their history would ultimately be different. But in the future there will be a coming together of their individual paths because other promises of God that are for them jointly will also be fulfilled. That we will get to as we progress further with this study.

The Destiny of Israel

We are generally considered to be in the latter days, fast approaching that short period of time known as the end of the age, which will culminate in the Ressurection of the Saints and the Gathering together of both the Dead and the Living at the Return of Jesus the Messiah.

A renewed interest in the prophecies concerning Israel has people looking at current events in an endeavour to see the unfolding of those prophecies. These very prophecies that determine the destiny of Israel are an important piece of eschatology, the centre piece of course is the coming of our Lord and Saviour in power and glory.

Beginning with the promises/prophecies given to Abraham, it is the purpose of this paper to assemble all the prophecies concerning Israel so that we may have a clarity of understanding and thereby be enabled to correctly interpret the signs of the times and not be deceived by the many false prophets that Jesus warned would arise in the end-times. With that prupose in mind, we will begin with the Promises of God made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The Birthright Promises of the Patriarchs from which the Destiny of Israel begins to be determined; this paper is a simple outline of the birthrights that were passed down. For a better understanding of the story you’ll have to read Genesis chapters 12-49.

Part 1: Abraham to Isaac

Starting in chapter 12 of Genesis, Abraham is chosen by God to be the father of many nations and through whom the world would be blessed. (Genesis 12:1-3; 13:16; 15:3-5, 17:1-7; 22:17)

The promises or prophecies given to Abraham by God are:

•You will be a great nation

•You will be a multitude of nations

•Your name shall be great

•You will be a blessing

•Blessed be everyone who blesses you

•Cursed be everyone who curses you

•In you all families of the earth will be blessed

•Your descendants shall be as numerous as the stars

•in heaven

•Your descendants will be as numerous as the sand

•on the seashore

•Kings will come from you

•You will be exceedingly fruitful

Sarah, Abraham’s wife, was also promised blessings and so were her children. (Genesis 17:15-16)

•She will be blessed

•She will be a mother of many nations

•Kings of people will come from her

Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac.

Ishmael was Abraham’s firstborn from Hagar, Sarah’s maidservant.


Isaac is his second born from Sarah. (21:1-3)

Isaac receives the birthright promises, Ishmael does not.


Ishmael receives his own promises from God, but not those

promised to Abraham and Sarah (16:10-12).

Ishmael will :

•Be a wild man

•His hand shall be against every man

•Every mans hand will be against him

•He will dwell in the presence of all his brethren

God confirms these blessings to Isaac after

Abraham dies (26:3-5):

•I will be with you

•I will give you all these lands

•I will make your descendents multiply as the stars of


•In your seed, all nations of the earth will be blessed

Part 2: Isaac to Jacob

Isaac marries Rebekah. (24:67)

Rebekah receives more promises (24:60):

•Your descendants will possess the gates of their enemies

•Rebekah will be the mother of thousands of ten thousands

Isaac and Rebekah have twin boys: Esau and Jacob.

Esau was born first and Jacob was born second. (25:24-26)

The birthright promises skipped Esau and went to Jacob.

(25:23, 29-34)

Jacob was blessed by his father Isaac: (27:27-29)

•May the Lord give you of the dew of heaven, of the fatness

•of the earth, and plenty of grain and wine

•Let people serve you

•Many nations will bow down to you

•Be master over your brethren

•Let your mother’s sons bow down to you

•Cursed be everyone who curses you

Esau also received promises, but not the birthright (27:39-40).

Esau will:

•Dwell in the fatness of the earth and with the dew of heaven from above

•Live by his sword

•Serve his brother (Jacob)

•Break his yoke from his neck

Part 3: Jacob to Joseph

Jacob marries two sisters: Leah and Rachel. (29:15-30)

From Leah, Rachel, and their two maidservants (Bilhah and Zilpah),

Jacob has 12 sons (35:23-26):

(These sons are listed in order from oldest to youngest)

1. Reuben

2. Simeon

3. Levi

4. Judah

5. Dan

6. Naphtali

7. Gad

8. Asher

9. Issachar




God changes Jacob’s name to Israel (35:10).

Joseph, who is #11 of the 12 sons, is sold into slavery by his

brothers. (37:28)

God ends up exalting him to the highest rank in Egypt as

promised to him. (41:39, 40)

ALL of the blessings and birthright promises given to Abraham,

Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, and Jacob (Israel) are passed on to Joseph.

Reuben (the first born) does not receive the blessings and

birthright promises.

Genesis 49: 22-26

22. Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well;

whose branches run over the wall:

23. The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and

hated him:

24. But his bow abode in his strength, and the arms of his hands

were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob;

(from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)

25. Even by the God of the father, who shall help thee; and by the

Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above,

blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts,

and of the womb:

26. The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings

of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting

hills:they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown

of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.

1 Chronicles 5:1-2

1. Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the

firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his

birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel:

and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

2. For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and from him came the

chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph’s

All of the birthright and blessings go to Joseph’s

sons…but Judah is given the right to rule:

Genesis 49:8-12

8. Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand

shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children

shall bow down before thee.

9. Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up:

he stooped down, he crouched as a lion, and as an old lion;

who shall rouse him up?

10.The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from

between his feet, until Shiloh come: and unto him shall the

gathering of the people be.

11.Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the

choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in

grapes blood:

12. His eyes shall be red with wine and his teeth white with milk.

Part 4: Joseph to Ephraim (and Manasseh)

In Egypt Joseph had two sons: Ephraim and Manasseh. (41:50-52)

All 12 brothers become tribes except for Joseph.

Joseph is not made a tribe but his two sons (Ephraim and Manasseh)

become tribes, as a double portion, a blessing. (48:5,21,22)

The birthright is passed through Joseph and goes to Ephraim

and Manasseh, but Ephraim is given the greater blessing (48:12-20) .

Ephraim is given the right to the father’s name: Israel.

***Realize that there are actually 13 tribes altogether.***

Even though Levi does not have land possession, Levi

is still a tribe!

Moving forward through history……..

After Joseph’s death,the children of Israel become slaves in Egypt.

After 400 years they are led out of Egypt under Moses and

wander in the desert for 40 years.

The children of Israel are then led into the Promised Land

under Joshua.

The 13 Tribes of Israel eventually become a nation, occupying

the territory promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

After the reign of King Solomon over the nation of Israel,

the tribes split into two kingdoms: Israel and Judah.

Israel is the Northern Kingdom, headed by the tribe of Ephraim.

Judah is the Southern Kingdom, headed by the tribe of Judah.

There are 10½ tribes to the North, 2½ tribes to the South; the Tribe of Levi being scattered throughout.

The people of the Northern Kingdom: Israel, are called Israelites


the people of the Southern Kingdom are Judahites (or Jews).

Only the Israelites of the Southern Kingdom are Jews.

Ephraim (Israel) is taken into captivity 745 B.C. by the Assyrians.

Judah is taken into captivity 573 B.C. by the Babylonians.

The Jews returned from captivity after 70 years.

The northern tribes never return.

These northern tribes are commonly referred to as the 10 “lost” tribes of Israel. Wherever these “lost” tribes are, they must be as numerous as “the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore”.

Remember: Ephraim and Manasseh received the birthright, not the Jews! Other promises were made to them; the scepter was not to depart from Judah. But thats another story. The birthright promises WERE NEVER fulfilled when they become tribes. The birthright promises ARE fulfilled when they become nations, a multitude of nations, and many kings! The birthright promises are fulfilled when they become exceedingly fruitful, possess the gates of their enemies, be a blessing to all nations and are numerous as the sand on the seashore and as the stars in heaven.”

Hosea 1:9-11

9   Then God said:

“Call his name Lo-Ammi,

For you are not My people,

And I will not be your God.

10  “Yet the number of the children of Israel

Shall be as the sand of the sea,

Which cannot be measured or numbered.

And it shall come to pass

In the place where it was said to them,

‘You are not My people,’

There it shall be said to them,

You are sons of the living God.’

11  Then the children of Judah and the children of Israel

Shall be gathered together,

And appoint for themselves one head;

And they shall come up out of the land,

For great will be the day of Jezreel!

Micah 5:7-9

7  Then the remnant of Jacob
Shall be in the midst of many peoples,

Like dew from the Lord,

Like showers on the grass,

That tarry for no man
Nor wait for the sons of men.

8  And the remnant of Jacob
Shall be among the Gentiles,
In the midst of many peoples,
Like a lion among the beasts of the forest,

Like a young lion among flocks of sheep,

Who, if he passes through,

Both treads down and tears in pieces,

And none can deliver.

9  Your hand shall be lifted against your adversaries,

And all your enemies shall be cut off.

And where & when did the children of Israel become  “not my people”, then as numerous as the sand on the seashore,then a multitude of nations, and then “sons of the living God”?

And where and when did Jacob/Israel subdue all their enemies as a lion among the flocks of sheep.

These promises are the Birthright Promises of God which were given to Ephraim and Mannaseh, as Joseph’s sons. These promises were never for Judah.

Jeremiah 31:9

9 They shall come with weeping,
And with supplications I will lead them.
I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters,
In a straight way in which they shall not stumble;
For I am a Father to Israel,

And Ephraim is My firstborn.

The Destiny of Israel/Ephraim is not yet complete. There are many speculations as where Ten Tribes went and who the Ten Tribes are today. But that is another subject which I will endeavour to present in good time.
